Pearl Color - Pearl Jewelry

Pearl color

The color of a pearl is also called it's body color. Typical pearl colors are white, cream, yellow, pink, silver, or black. A pearl can also have a hint of secondary color, or overtone, which is seen when light reflects off the pearl surface. The apparent color of a pearl more often than not is a combination of its body color and its overtone. As an example, a white-rose pearl describes a white pearl with a rosy-colored hue.

Color does not affect the quality of a pearl, but does affect the perceived beauty of the pearl according to the individual taste. Some colors are more popular than others in different markets. White pearls are the most popular in America, while silver are more sought after in Asia.
